There are many applications and commands with this name, but the one I mean here is [the perl script](http://tretboot.petschge.de/projekte/irssiskripte/index.htm) for irssi. It substitutes statements such as 'E=\\hbar\\omega' by the appropriate UTF-8 characters. Pretty neat. 😊
